My Response to Obama’s Email about the Gulf.

Check out this fascinating quote today from my blog The Things:

Sent on Sat, June 5, 2010 5:56:09 PM to my Email was a message entitled “The Gulf Coast”  sent by President Barack Obama. The Email is paid for by Organizing for America, a project of the Democratic National Committee and I love how it says at the bottom of the Email, “Thank You, President Barack Obama” and then has a disclaimer in small print that says, “This communication is not authorized by any candidate or candidate’s committee.”  I get these Email’s because I volunteered for Obama’s presidential campaign and donated money.  Every time something good of bad happens involving the president, all of us donors get these Emails. I’ve often thought about blogging about them, because some of these Emails have been inspiring, but the one that I’m responding to here is not inspiring in the slightest. My moral compass requires me to respond to what I consider to be bullshit, even if it comes from someone I have campaigned for.thethings.info, My Response to Obama’s Email about the Gulf., Jun 2010

Book Review: The Feminine Mystique

Check out this quote from my blog:

“The problems and satisfaction of of their lives, and mine, and the way our education has contributed to them, simply did not fit with the image of modern American woman as she was written about in women’s magazines, studied and analyzed in classrooms and clinics, praised and damned in ceaseless barrage of words ever since the end of World War II.”

University of Phoenix is Not a Good College

Check out this snippet from my latest blog post:

In this current economic recession, many laid off workers are going back to college to learn new job skills, as the twenty-five percent increase of enrollments from last year suggests (Keen). It makes good sense to desire to improve your skills and qualifications in an increasingly competitive job market, but “would be” college students need to understand that all colleges and the skills and qualification they provide, are not created equal. Choosing the right college could mean the difference between landing a secure job or maintaining your position in the unemployment line. A laid off worker has little income and requires an affordable college that gives them the biggest bang for their buck. In addition, a laid off worker needs a degree from a college that is respected by employers and helps them stand out from the crowd. Also Laid off works need  a college that is designed for on campus classes, that foster live one on one interactions and that build relationships that may prove beneficial in landing a future career. The University of Phoenix is not affordable, is not highly regarded, and does not foster personal interactions between students and is not a good choice for laid off workers because of it.thethings.info, University of Phoenix is Not a Good College, Mar 2010

My Journey

Check out this quote from my latest blog post:

All of us man or woman, are on an ambiguously  termed “journey” through life. Perhaps the term itself being ambiguous, is fitting when considering that is how the journey starts, in the ambiguity of dealing with the inside and outside self. As children we are dealing with and learning about our own selfishness versus the impact of our outside world. We learn that others don’t like us to be selfish so we adapt and become selfless and forget our own needs. At some point in life, we learn how to balance this out or we either stay selfish and we don’t get along with the outside world or we stay selfless and never nurture our own inside needs. I’ve personally jumped back and forth between selfish and selfless and would like to think that I have found the balance, but you never really know until you have the benefit of hindsight.thethings.info, My Journey, Mar 2010

I’m only lovable if

Check out this quote from The Things:

As a man, the word lovable is unacceptable. We are not allowed to be lovable. Loveable is a term used to describe women or hamsters. The cute little hamster can be lovable, but a man must be hansom or strong.  It doesn’t matter that Merriam Websters online dictionary says that lovable means “having qualities that attract affection,” because men don’t need affection in our society. I wish that was truly the case. We do need affection but in our society’s culturalization of men, a man must embrace his stereotype or he is not a man.thethings.info, I’m only lovable if, Feb 2010

Pole-Dancing is Sport

Check out this quote from my Blog:

Anyone who as ever watched the Olympics has probably never heard of or considered half of the events as a sport but according to the The Free Dictionary a sport is a “Physical activity that is governed by a set of rules or customs and often engaged in competitively (“Sport,” n.d.).” If that is the case, then there are many activities that can be considered a sport, even pole-dancing. Some people might scratch their heads at the very thought of pole-dancing as a sport, but the United States Pole Dance Federation holds the US Pole Dance Championship every year and it has been introduced in dance studios and sports gyms as a fitness activity. (2008). Like all sports players, pole-dancers have to perform according to a set of rules and customs, some of which are required by the government and others determined by the competitions. By its very nature pole-dancing is competitive, the best dancers make the most money, but the ones that enter competitions receive trophies and cash prizes, or as the United States Pole Dancing Federation says on their website, “compete because you love to pole dance. (2008)” Since pole-dancing requires physical activity, is governed by a set of rules and customs, and because it is competitive, is by the very definition of the word, a sport.thethings.info, Pole-Dancing is Sport, Feb 2010

Ethnocentric Proof Fence

Check out this quote from my blog:

Moore River was a training institution and repository for juvenile and adult people of mix color, unmarried mothers, orphaned children, and the elderly and indigent. At these run-down institutions, the children were given a basic education and then sent out to work as domestic servants and laborers. Many of these children were taken from their aboriginal mothers by force. These children became known as the “Stolen Generations.”thethings.info, Ethnocentric Proof Fence, Jan 2010

The Black Heart: Homebrew Goes Awesome

Check this out this quote from My Blog The Things

One of the limitations that homebrew gaming scene has is its lack of original style. Most homebrew games only imitate other commercial games. Even commercial games copy gameplay from each other, but you will find that the changes to their styles makes or brakes another clone. The homebrew 2d fighting game, “The Black Heart” certainly has broken down the style barrier with its truly awesome game play and unique art, that puts even the best of 2d fighting games to shame.thethings.info, The Black Heart: Homebrew Goes Awesome, Jan 2010

My Bones, Stones and Human Evolution Class

Check out this snippet from my latest blog post:

While we were studying our hominid ancestors, a new discovery was made, Ardipithecus. This new Paranthropus was added to our studies and was an example of how things change. Many anthropologist theorize that we evolved from chimpanzees but the more we discover, the more likely this was not the case. We may share a common ancestor but after the discovery of Ardipithecus, we are not finding that we share enough with Chimps. For one, they are knuckle walkers and Ardipithecus does not seem to have any signs of ever knuckle walking. Our separate lineage with Chimps may be far older than we originally thought.thethings.info, My Bones, Stones and Human Evolution Class, Jan 2010
